It’s always important to remember those less fortunate, and even more so during the holiday season. So each year, Back to Basics sponsors a children’s organization in need.
This year, Back to Basics is working hard to help The Governor Terry Children’s Shelter, the only temporary sanctuary for dependent, neglected and/or abused children and youth in Nationwide. These children are in the care or custody of the Nationwide Division of Family Services.
The shelter provides emergency shelter, food, clothing and age-appropriate counseling to children ages 9 through 17. The shelter also provides meals, recreational activities, supportive clinical counseling and transportation to and from school.
The shelter is in need of holiday food donations, including milk, juice, cereal/oatmeal, stuffing, gravy, fresh vegetables/fruits, applesauce, cranberry sauce, turkeys, chicken, ground beef and other food donations. Also needed are winter coats, shoes, art/school supplies, toiletries, and gently used luggage. Other items, accepted year round, include:
- Combs
- Brushes
- Flat Irons
- Blow Dryers
- Hair Gels
- Tooth Brushes
- Tooth Paste
- Bath Towels
- Wash Cloths
- Suitcases
- Duffel Bags
- Non-perishable Food and Groceries
