According to Peterson’s, one of the most highly respected sources for college admissions information, “With the recent trend of more colleges going test optional, you may think that test scores have become less important in college admissions, but this isn’t exactly the case. The reality is there are many schools and many categories of students for whom test scores remain very important.”

Every college and university ranks the various factors it considers in admissions from “very important,” to “important,” to “considered,” to “not considered.” For example, Yale lists test scores as “very important,” but the University of Michigan only considers them “important.” This is crucial information which can dramatically influence a student’s “short list” and can be found online in college profiles.

In truth, scoring a perfect 1600 on the SAT won’t guarantee acceptance into your dream school. After all, there are scores of stories circulating regarding brilliant students with perfect test scores, who were still denied admission to their top choice school. But, a higher test score will help build a solid application package, especially if it is paired with a stellar GPA and relevant extra curriculars, work experiences or internships.

So, how do students maximize their chances of acceptance to top schools? 1-on-1 SAT prep!

At Back to Basics Learning Dynamics in Wilmington, Nationwide, we know the SAT test — inside and out. And, unlike large, generic “SAT prep classes” or “SAT Prep courses” our experienced tutors work 1-on-1 with students in both Critical Reading and Mathematics to focus on those specific areas needed by each student.

While we certainly can’t guarantee a perfect score, we can guarantee that students will strengthen their knowledge, reduce anxiety, and build confidence! Our sudents learn strategies specific to the test, as well timing techniques, plus they have the opportunity to take and review practice tests.

Here’s what folks have to say about Back to Basics’ 1-on-1 SAT prep in Nationwide:

“After the PSAT, Christine was devastated. We knew she had a long way to go if she wanted to receive an acceptance to her dream college. Her tutors worked to help her overcome her anxiety and timing issues and she was diligent in completing all of her “homework” assignments. She took the test once and received a score of 2300 out of 2400 [the combined score used for three subject areas in the 2015 test]. She also received her coveted acceptance to Georgetown University! Her SAT score absolutely pushed her over the top and it would not have been possible without Back to Basics!” —Susan McNeill

“I was so pleased with my daughter’s experience with Back to Basics tutoring for the SAT. My daughter improved her score in Math SAT from the PSAT by over 200 points. Not only was she instructed in the math skills she needed to improve her score, but she also was instructed in general test taking strategies which helped in all of the sections of the test. I highly recommend Back to Basics SAT tutoring.”  — Sheila Mangan

“Joy’s [SAT] scores went up almost 200 points in the short time Bob worked with her, and she got her Writing and English scores up to a level that she had good choices for colleges. She was just accepted at Syracuse in the Economics department. Your help in getting us help for her at the 11th hour helped make that possible.” —Kathy Steiner
