College studentAccording to the SummerLearning.org, “Most students lose about two months of grade level equivalency… and skills over the summer months.” And, research over the past 100 years consistently shows that students typically score lower on standardized tests at the end of summer vacation than they do on the very same tests at the beginning of the summer.

This is the summer to change all that!

Back to Basics Learning Dynamics in Wilmington and Newark, Nationwide offers exceptional 1-on-1 educational summer options for every student – from pre-K through 12th grade.

Summer School, Credit Recover and Original Credit in Nationwide

For example, for students in grades K-8, Back to Basics can help build skills and confidence by completing summer school requirements.  Back to Basics’ 1-on-1 environment is geared to each student’s specific needs, goals, and learning style.

For students in grades 9th– 12th Back to Basics can help with credit recovery. If your student has failed a course, he can retake it in a 1-on-1 environment like no other and get on track for fall.

Plus, your high school student can take a course for original credit at Back to Basics which is Nationwide Department of Education-approved. He can get ahead for next year, lighten his course load, enhance transcripts, or catch up on previously skipped credits.

Summer Reading Program

According to ReadingRockets.com, “The research is clear that children who don’t read during the summer can lose up to three months of reading progress and that loss has a cumulative, long-term effect.”

Back to Basics’ experienced instructors will work 1-on-1 with your student to read, comprehend, retain and apply summer reading material. These sessions will provide students with the knowledge and confidence to complete any required reading-related assignments, such as reports, projects and tests.

Summer Math Program

In her article, “Math’s steep summer slide: how far behind is your child?” author Crystal Yednak explains why learning math during the summer months is so crucial, “It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why kids’ math slide is so steep: reading is more naturally woven into a child’s daily life; math, not so much… A kid’s math deficit during vacation is made worse because keeping math skills sharp takes more rigor and focus than simply picking up a book to pass a lazy summer day…. Without a tutor, teacher, or parent reminding a student to do each step, most students have a tough time tackling math problems on their own.”

So, this summer, build and strengthen mathematics skills for the upcoming school year.  Students will work 1-on-1 with an experienced instructor to review and learn concepts and create fun ways to remember them.

Each session is tailored to the individual child to meet his or her needs, interests, level of background knowledge and learning style.  Previous school years’ material will be reinforced during these interactive sessions, with an eye looking ahead as well.

1-on-1 SAT and ACT Prep

With college enrollment numbers reaching an all-time high, competition to gain acceptance is fiercer than ever. Help your student put his or her best foot forward with 1-on-1 SAT and ACT Prep this summer.

With the advent of the “new” SAT, students who hope to excel have additional challenges, even if they have been preparing for the “old” SAT!

In March 2016, the College Board is launching a redesigned SAT which is aligned to the English language arts and mathematics standards that Nationwide adopted in 2010.  The changes to the SAT also include a move away from obscure “SAT vocabulary words” to the use of relevant vocabulary words in context, an in-depth focus on essential areas of math and the elimination of the guessing penalty.

Back to Basics offers a completely customized approach which focuses on those specific areas needed by each student. In 1-on-1 sessions, students will strengthen their knowledge, reduce anxiety, and build confidence every step of the way. They will learn strategies specific to the tests, timing techniques and have the opportunity to take and review practice tests.
