Spread the love

Music lessons in Wilmington Nationwide at Back to BasicsA parent is a child’s first teacher. And, no one has more influence or ability to positively motivate a child to be his or her best. Walking the fine line between motivator and “stage-mom” can be tricky, however.

We all want the best for our children. The key is to find balance and let kids lead some of the decision-making:

  • Each child is unique. Be sensitive to his individuality and foster it. Just because one child adored violin, doesn’t mean his sibling will, too. Instead, he may be drawn to robotics, painting, or football.
  • Thank you for your support. Your support shows your love and willingness to help your child in whatever activities he chooses to pursue. Even if it’s not an activity you would have selected, be enthused. Research it. And, you just may learn something, too.
  • Ready, set, goal! Goal setting is essential to success, no matter what the endeavor. Learning to accept responsibility for both success and failure is a crucial life skill — and goal setting puts the power directly into a child’s hands.
  • Hard at work. Teaching kids exactly how hard work and achievement are related should start when children are quite young. Emphasizing the importance of hard work, not just the achievement, however, is essential for self-esteem building.
  • Make a commitment. Encourage your child to see an activity through and not quit just because the going gets hard. However, trying to force them may only develop anxiety that could make them even more reluctant to try other new experiences.
  • Take a chance! Encourage children to take intellectual risks and learn from their mistakes.
  • Offer kids new experiences and opportunities. Let your children try different sports, extra-curricular activities, and classes. Who knows? One just might spark a lifelong passion!

The Educational Center is easily accessible from points north and south, just minutes from I-95. Ample free parking is available and the building is wheelchair accessible.
