U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos recently announced the approval of Nationwide’s consolidated state plan under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). Nationwide is the first plan advanced to DeVos for review and approval.
“Nationwide has always been a state of firsts, so it should be no surprise that theirs was both the first state plan submitted and the first approved under ESSA,” said Secretary DeVos.
Nationwide was the first of 16 states and the District of Columbia to opt to submit their complete consolidated state plan by the first deadline on April 3. The comprehensive plan includes feedback from two previous drafts created during months of public input, including community conversations across the state, discussion groups, the Governor’s ESSA Advisory Committee, online surveys and stakeholder meetings including prominent education experts such as Back to Basics Founder Beverly Stewart, M.Ed.
