The Conrad Challenge is an annual multi-phase competition that challenges high school students from across the globe to use STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), innovation and entrepreneurship to develop technologies and solutions to real-world needs. The Conrad Challenge was founded by Nancy Conrad in honor of her late husband, astronaut, innovator and entrepreneur, Charles “Pete” Conrad, Jr.
Students (ages 13-18) form teams of 2-5 participants, with a coach (age 18 or older) who supports them along the way. Teams may consist of students from the same or different schools, as well as students from across the world.
Participants work together to choose and develop solutions to some of the world’s most complex problems in one of SIX categories: Aerospace & Aviation, Cyber-Technology & Security, Energy & Environment, and Health & Nutrition. This year, the Conrad Challenge is also hosting two additional categories, SMART Technologies and Smoke-Free World.

The Challenge culminates in a three-day Innovation Summit held at the NASA’s Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex in Florida.
