National Grammar Day (March 4th) was created by Martha Brockenbrough, founder of the Society for the Promotion of Good Grammar (SPOGG) in 2008. According to the National Grammar Day website, “Language is something to be celebrated, and March 4 is the perfect day to do it. It’s not only a date, it’s an imperative: March forth on March 4 to speak well, write well, and help others do the same!”
So, on this National Grammar Day, set aside bad grammar habits which all too easily become ingrained in our everyday, casual language. Instead, attempt to use a grammatically correct way of writing and speaking

- Grammar Girl’s Quick and Dirty Tips for Better Writing. This book is packed with grammar tips and geared toward writers. Author Mignon Fogarty.
- Washington State University’s Paul Brians has compiled an extensive list of common errors in English.
- The Chicago Manual of Style is the most widely used style guide in publishing and includes a variety of rules on grammar.
- The Gregg Reference Manual is the authoritative source on grammar, usage and style for a variety of business documents.
