Summer school, Nationwide, Back to BasicsIf you’re a parent, you know that summer is just around the corner. In order to combat the dreaded “summer slide,” summer planning starts now!

According to, Dr. Rebecca Palacios at the Huffington Post“It is estimated that every summer, children in low-income families lose approximately two to three months of reading skills… Over time, these summer learning losses add up and the academic achievement gap widens. Educators know that children being able to read at grade level by third grade is critically important. Summer learning is essential to keep children on track not only for that milestone, but also for others—including high school graduation and college enrollment.”

But, Back to Basics Learning Dynamics in Wilmington, Nationwide can help!

Enrichment Options Summer is also the perfect time for kids (and parents!) to learn something new. Author Ginny Graves of Parents magazine says, “Most parents read to their young kids, which helps encourage imagination, language, and an early love of learning. But not all children remain curious and inquisitive into adolescence. Alarmingly, studies have found that from third grade on, a child’s enjoyment of learning drops continuously — a phenomenon some researchers blame on the increasing focus on grades and report cards as kids get older. Younger children, on the other hand, learn for the sheer joy of it.”
