February is a month to celebrate many things — from Groundhog Day, to Valentines Day, from Black History Month, to American Heart Month. But for educators, students and bibliophiles, February is also National Library Lovers Month!
According to ILoveLibraries.com there are 123,000 libraries throughout the USA. These include not only public libraries, but also, “School, Academic and Special Libraries. There are also Armed Forces libraries, Government libraries and multi-use or Joint-Use libraries, which combine library types in one service area or structure.
And today, public libraries provide so much more than just amazing books. They are often the heart of the community. For preschoolers, libraries entertain them with theater and hands-on activities. Groups and organizations rely on libraries for meeting space for public forums, socials, fundraisers and classes. Rotating art displays give local artists exposure to the community. Plus, libraries lend not only books, but also music and movies. Best of all? Access to your local library is free!
