Spread the love

Tonight from 7:30 to 9:30 pm, at the Greenville Country Club, enjoy music, wine and cheese, and the unique opportunity to meet and celebrate the success of Isatou Ceesay, recipient of THE INTERNATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR WOMEN (TIAW) WORLD OF DIFFERENCE 100 AWARD FOR 2012.

Isatou, initially trained by working with Peace Corps volunteers, has taken the initiative to transform the lives of women of Gambia. She represents the future of women’s leadership in her country. With the support of the Gambia Women’s Initiative, both financially and through training, she has implemented and maintained key projects in four villages that are providing a sustainable income source for the local women’s cooperatives.

The projects include the installation of a cous milling machine and a rice milling machine, the building of a bakery and the development of a soap production. The profit from these projects, each of which is set up as a business, provides the women in the village with investment income to build other businesses.

The results of Isatou’s initiatives have provided children with shoes and clothes for school and access to better education. The villages are gaining from improved nutrition and basic health care. The women are empowered and now have the status to participate in the village decision making process.
