Lego-TowerRed Clay Consolidated School District is making available small chunks of the LEGO Tower that broke the Guinness World Record for tallest ever constructed, to benefit local schools.

On Aug. 19, 2013 hundreds gathered at John Dickinson High School to witness Superintendent Merv Daugherty top off the 11-story tower and break the record. The tower was dismantled several days later, with plans to donate the more than 500,000 tiny plastic bricks it took to build the 112 foot structure.

At district Back to School Open Houses, schools are selling $1 raffle tickets for a chance to win the labeled pieces. A limited number of larger sections are up for auction online, with proceeds to benefit the Red Clay Education Foundation.
