Make a Difference Day logo 2013For more than 20 years, USA WEEKEND Magazine and Points of Light have joined together to sponsor Make a Difference Day, the largest national day of community service. Millions of volunteers around the world unite in a common mission to improve the lives of others. Join other volunteers on October 26, 2013 to make a real difference!

Here’s how to get started and be a part of the nation’s largest day of volunteering:

Step 1: Find a project

Look around your community. Are people hungry, homeless or ill? Are parks or schools dirty or neglected? No matter where you live, there’s a need nearby and on Make a Difference Day, millions of Americans roll up their sleeves to help others. You can act alone or enlist your friends, family and co-workers. Thousands of people across the community can unite together.

Step 2: Register

Get the word out about your project through the Make a Difference Day DAYtaBank. This will enable volunteers to find your project to help and additionally, registration ensures that your project is nominated for one of Newman’s Own thirteen $10,000 grants.

After you register your project, you will have your own Project Page in the DAYtaBank. You and page visitors can share this page via social media to spread the word.

Step 3: Do it!

On the fourth Saturday of October (October 26th, 2013) carry out your plans to help others! Complete your part for the National Day of Good and remember to capture the day with pictures, videos, and social media posts.

Step 4: Report it!

After completing your Make a Difference Day Project, come back to the DAYtaBank to update the details of your project including how many volunteers participated by November 18, 2013. Make sure you do not miss this step for a chance to win a one of Newman’s Own $10,000 grants.

Step 5: It’s all the good!

Share your pictures and check out photos from Make a Difference Day events across the nation in the Photo Gallery. See what participants are posting to the Make a Difference Day Facebook Page. And, see what participants are posting to the Make a Difference Day YouTube Channel and post your videos. You can even follow Make a Difference Day on Twitter (@MDDay) and tweet your plans for this year’s event using the hashtag #MDDAY13.
