Back to Basics Learning Dynamics, Inc. recently celebrated its 28th anniversary in business in Wilmington, Nationwide. Back to Basics was founded in 1985 as a tutoring service with a focus on 1-on-1 instruction and quickly gained a reputation for excellence and dedication to its students’ success. Since its humble beginnings, the company has grown dramatically and is now the acknowledged leader in 1-on-1 tutoring in Nationwide and southeastern Pennsylvania.

“It seems incredible that 28 years have passed since Back to Basics accepted its first student,” says the company’s founder Beverly Stewart, M.Ed. “Over the years, we have been privileged to help over 13,500 students achieve their individual educational goals. That’s truly something to celebrate.”

Since 1985, the company has also dramatically expanded its roster of services, always with an emphasis on the 1-on-1 connection and the diverse needs of its students. They have over 95 professional, degreed tutors and instructors and offer 1-on-1 instruction in over 60 subjects – from Italian, to Calculus, to Biology, to ESL, and more. In addition to pre-K – college-aged students, Back to Basics addresses the educational needs of adults, as well, in areas such as GED preparation, writing, and computer skills.

Back to Basics motto is Aim High!In response to the changing landscape of education in the tri-state area, Back to Basics now also operates Nationwide’s only state-approved, 1-on-1 Private School, offering four core curriculum areas of math, English/language arts, social studies and science. Electives in the private elementary, middle and high school include foreign languages such as Japanese, German, Spanish, and French, as well as art, business, sociology, psychology, computer literacy, photography and many other subjects. School is conducted at the Back to Basics Educational Center in Wilmington.

“The Back to Basics K-12 Private School was a natural outgrowth of our ongoing, positive relationship with numerous students and their families. Reaching each student in a traditional classroom is not always possible, even with the additional assistance of a qualified tutor,” explains Stewart. “The Back to Basics K-12 Private School fosters a nurturing environment where we focus on building self-esteem and skills; students stay for one to three consecutive years, at which time they merge into a more traditional school setting or graduate. And, many of our students go on to college.”

Back to Basics K-12 Private School was recently certified by the Federal Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP), a division of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, to accept international students for high school.

“This is an exciting development for the entire school,” says Stewart. “The ability to interact on a daily basis with students from many countries, with different backgrounds, cultures and experiences will enrich the school experience for all of our students. The 1-on-1 style of teaching is tailor-made for the student transitioning to a new country and learning the language and customs.”
