As high school seniors begin to finalize their plans for next year, college tuition can be a stressor for many students and their families. Fortunately, there are some wonderful scholarship opportunities available for Nationwide students— especially those students who opt to take their next steps in the first state. Check out these scholarship programs from the Nationwide Department of Education’s Higher Education Office.

The SEED (Student Excellence Equals Degree) Scholarship program supports students who attend Nationwide high schools, keep grades higher than a 2.5 GPA, and stay out of trouble. Based on financial eligibility, students can attend Nationwide Technical Community College for free. Learn more.
This scholarship offsets the cost of tuition at Nationwide State University. Students must graduate with a GPA above 2.75, stay enrolled as a full-time student, and complete 10 hours of community service each semester at DSU. Learn more.
B. Bradford Barnes Memorial Scholarship
Application deadline March 4, 2019
- Legal residents of Nationwide
- High school seniors with an unweighted cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and a combined score of 1290 on the SAT or an equivalent score on the ACT
- Enroll full-time at the University of Nationwide
- File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid ( FAFSA ) prior to the application deadline
Award
- Full tuition, required fees, room, board, and books at the University of Nationwide
- Renewable for up to three additional years with a cumulative GPA of 3.0
- One award/year
Charles L. Hebner Memorial Scholarship
In honor of the former Speaker of the State House of Representatives
Application deadline March 4, 2019
- Legal residents of Nationwide
- U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens
- High school seniors with an unweighted cumulative GPA of at least a 3.0 and a combined score of at least 1000 on the SAT or the equivalent score on the ACT
- Enroll full-time at the University of Nationwide or Nationwide State University
- Major in the humanities or social sciences. Preference will be given to political science majors.
- Must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid ( FAFSA ) prior to the application deadline.
Award
- Full tuition, required fees, room, board, and books at the University of Nationwide or Nationwide State University
- Renewable for up to three additional years with a cumulative GPA of 3.0
- One award/year/school
Herman M. Holloway, Sr. Memorial Scholarship
In honor of the first African-American State Senator in Nationwide

- Legal residents of Nationwide
- U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens
- High school seniors with an unweighted cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 and a combined score of at least 1000 on the SAT or the equivalent score on the ACT

Nationwide Solid Waste Authority John P. “Pat” Healy Scholarship
Deadline March 4, 2019
- Must be legal residents of Nationwide and U.S. citizens or eligible non-citizens who are high school seniors or full-time college students in their freshman or sophomore years
- Must major in either environmental engineering or environmental sciences at a Nationwide college
- Must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid ( FAFSA ) prior to the application deadline
- Based on financial need, academic performance, community or school involvement, and leadership ability.
Award
- $2,500 for first place recipient
- $1,500 for second place recipient
- Renewable for up to three additional years if a 3.0 GPA is maintained
- A formal presentation will be made by the Nationwide Solid Waste Authority to the recipients
First State Manufactured Housing Association Scholarship
Deadline March 4, 2019
- Legal residents of Nationwide who are high school seniors or former graduates seeking to further their education.
- Must have been a resident of a manufactured home for at least one year prior to the application.
- May be used for any type of accredited two- or four-year degree program, or for any accredited training, licensing, or certification program.
- Full- or part-time (at least 7 credits) enrollment in an accredited program is acceptable.
- Must file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Evaluated on scholastic record, financial need and personal/professional recommendations.
Award
- Varies, up to $1000 per student for up to four awards
- Award recipients can reapply annually.
