Do you know how far you will drive on the freeway if you take your eyes off the road for five seconds, which is the average time it takes to send a text? An entire football field.
And, according to the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute, texting while driving makes drivers 23 times more likely to get into a “safety-critical event.”
Plus, teens are the age group at the highest risk for texting-related accidents. On average, teens are the most inexperienced drivers out there, and they are also the most addicted to texting. That can be a lethal combination.
So, take the pledge to stop text and driving. And, you could win a $1000 college scholarship!
Who may apply: High school freshmen, sophomores, juniors, or seniors or current college or graduate school students of any level. Home schooled students are also eligible. There is no age limit. Must also be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
