Our tutors are qualified and experienced
teaching professionals. They are caring, supportive people who know how to help children and adults develop
confidence. They motivate them to learn and inspire them to achieve. Our tutors are selected carefully for
academic credentials and for the skills and personalities needed to work with students of all ages.
Every tutor undergoes background checks before we consider hiring. Great care is given to matching a
tutor with a student. Every tutor is hand picked to meet the optimum success of each student.
Our one-on-one tutoring approach provides maximum benefits by increasing knowledge of subject
matter and building self-esteem. Tutors are placed with students in a standing schedule.
The student has the same tutor each session, thus building a rapport and knowledge of teaching
and learning styles.
We offer over 50 subjects. One-on-one tutoring is provided either in the
student’s home, school, office, summer camp, or afterschool care, or at our center in Wilmington.
Back to Basics is also unique in that it provides services for students from age 3 to older adults.
Our oldest student was 85!
We educate students from a broad range of abilities-whether gifted, learning disabled, visually
impaired, ADHD, Asperger’s, or simply in need of some support, Back to Basics is ready to begin
within a few days of your phone call.
Small group sessions are offered for study skills, SAT, High School Placement Test (HSPT), and
DSTP preparation. They are held either at our center in Wilmington, at a parent’s home, or at
schools in Delaware, Maryland, or Pennsylvania. These can be held before, during, or after
school, or on weekends.
Groups are typically made up of eight students or fewer, therefore affording each student some
individualized attention as well.
Starting soon, Back to Basics will offer Online Tutors for students in Grades 9-12. Stay tuned!
High school students can take an entire course, one-on-one, for credit through Back to Basics in order to get
ahead for the following school year. For example, if a student wanted to take an extra science, math, or
social science course to enhance his/her transcript for college, Back to Basics would teach the course to
the student -- complete with quizzes, tests, homework, and projects, as appropriate. These courses can be
taken in the summer or at any time throughout the calendar year. Back to Basics is state-approved.

Back to Basics has been state-approved since 1985 to provide summer school instruction, one-on-one, for credit.
This applies to public, private and parochial school students in all grades. The increase in skills and
confidence are markedly greater than in a classroom summer school environment. Students are much better
prepared for the following year. Unlike a summer school, Back to Basics accommodates vacation and job
schedules. More than 50 subjects are offered. Call us at (302) 594-0754.
As the homeschool
movement continues to grow, we at Back to Basics are prepared to meet the educational challenges that
homeschool families face. From K-12, we work collaboratively to ensure that your child is given the opportunity
to reach his/her maximum potential. We can assist in everything from instruction of one subject to
oversight of total curriculum and instructional needs. Read more about

Back to Basics serves the needs of
the visually impaired, hearing impaired, learning disabled, and those with ADHD and other learning differences.
Our one-on-one approach allows us to completely customize our tutoring and teaching to each individual.
Our philosophy remains the same with all students-we work with current strengths and foster growth in
areas of non-strengths.
Tutors working with special needs students are specifically trained to teach this profile of student.
We offer private tutoring services, the Bridge Program and Home School Support to many children with
special needs. Please call to discuss your child's particular learning needs.

An educational consultant and advocate is often necessary when parents are considering making transitions
between schools, or when students are experiencing difficulties with academics. Additionally, when
parents are confused by all the education lingo and there are numerous decisions to be made regarding
their child's immediate and long-term future--this is the time to call in a seasoned professional to
answer questions and act as an advocate for your child. An educational consultant will greatly reduce
the stress a parent goes through in trying to raise a well-rounded child. They need a bridge between
their child and the school, and often want support in school meetings and conferences.
Beverly Stewart, M.Ed., educational consultant and founder of Back to Basics Learning Dynamics, Inc.,
provides these services. Read more about
Consulting Services for Parents.
Sophomores, juniors, and seniors are invited to take these SAT preparation workshops. Each workshop
will focus on either math or verbal content, strategies specific to the SAT, timing techniques, and
provide the opportunity to take and review practice tests. Students are welcome to join either
content area, or take both workshops, to strengthen their knowledge, reduce anxiety, and build
confidence every step of the way. Read more about Current Classes.
Topics covered include notetaking, outlining, reading for meaning, memory techniques, time management, organization,
test preparation and test-taking strategies. Our approach has been instrumental in helping
students get on track academically and staying there.

Back to Basics is in full operation during the summer months. It's an ideal time to build confidence and
strengthen basic skills or simply get a head start for the next school year. Students may take a course,
one-on-one, at Back to Basics for credit during the summer in place of going to summer school or enroll
in a small group workshop to get a jump on difficult concepts of an upcoming fall course. Students can
use this time to prepare for High School Entrance Exams, DSTP, PSAT/SAT tests, or take workshops that
strengthen an interest in learning and develop study skills. Workshops are offered from K- Grade 12.
